Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2: An 800mAh Battery, 5,000-Nit Display And New Diving Tools

Samsung unveiled Galaxy Watch Ultra2 at Old Billingsgate in London on July 22. The 47mm titanium watch keeps the footprint of its predecessor while reducing thickness to 10.7mm. Its battery grows from 590mAh to 800mAh, the display expands to 38.5mm and peak brightness rises to 5,000 nits. Trail running, depth tracking and diving tools give the second-generation Ultra a clearer outdoor identity.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is built for long GPS sessions, LTE connectivity and activities that continue beyond a gym or city route. It combines Snapdragon Wear Elite, dual-frequency L1 and L5 positioning, 10ATM water resistance, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H and EN13319 credentials in a titanium case.

Korea receives one 47mm LTE configuration in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray. The official price is KRW 969,100. Pre-orders begin on July 28 and general sales start on August 7.

A 47mm Titanium Body That Is 12% Thinner

The case still measures 47.4 x 47.1mm across its face. A circular display sits inside the familiar cushion-shaped frame, with a Quick Button and two function buttons on the right. Thickness falls from 12.1mm to 10.7mm, a reduction of 1.4mm or 12% according to Samsung.

Weight moves in the opposite direction, rising from 60.5g to 61.5g. Samsung has fitted a larger display and substantially larger battery while making the case thinner, leaving a one-gram increase on the specification sheet. On the wrist, sleeve clearance, the bend of the band and how the weight is distributed will matter more than that single gram.

Titanium Silver creates a bright contrast around the display and orange Quick Button. Titanium Gray connects the bezel and cushion frame in a darker tone. Because 47mm is the only size, wrist circumference and the point where the band begins to bend should be considered alongside the case diameter.

The 800mAh Battery Changes The Ultra Formula

Battery capacity rises by 210mAh, from 590mAh to 800mAh. That is an increase of about 35% and the largest battery fitted to a Samsung Galaxy Watch. The extra capacity is particularly relevant when GPS, LTE and a high-brightness outdoor display are used at the same time.

Samsung lists up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled and up to 80 hours with it disabled. These figures should not be directly compared with the predecessor's separate 100-hour power-saving claim. A power-saving maximum and a normal-use maximum describe different operating conditions.

For trail routes, long rides and overnight sleep tracking, the larger cell is less about passive standby and more about keeping one continuous record. Charging uses a WPC-based fast wireless system. Actual endurance will vary with LTE, GPS, display brightness, workout duration, sensors and installed apps.

Snapdragon Wear Elite Replaces Exynos

Samsung has replaced Exynos W1000 with Qualcomm's SDW6100 Snapdragon Wear Elite. The 3nm platform uses a five-core CPU running at 2.1GHz and 1.95GHz, paired with 2GB of memory and 64GB of storage. Available storage after system files is listed at 49.3GB.

Samsung claims a 32% CPU improvement and a 19% GPU improvement over the previous Galaxy Watch Ultra. Those figures are specific to Samsung's Ultra2 comparison. Qualcomm's broader Wear Elite platform claims use a different reference platform and should not be treated as the same measurement.

Map movement, workout transitions, simultaneous sensor processing and Gemini voice requests will reveal whether that performance translates into daily responsiveness. Software optimization, mobile connectivity and the apps in use will still influence real-world speed and power consumption.

A Larger 38.5mm Display At Up To 5,000 Nits

The Super AMOLED panel grows from 37.3mm to 38.5mm, while resolution rises from 480 x 480 to 498 x 498. Samsung has expanded the visible area without increasing the case's 47.4 x 47.1mm footprint. Maps, elevation profiles, heart-rate zones and workout metrics gain slightly more room within the same external dimensions.

Peak brightness climbs from 3,000 to 5,000 nits, an increase of about 66.7%. That higher ceiling targets midday trails, snow, open water and other environments with intense reflections. Peak brightness is not a permanent manual setting; the watch adjusts output according to ambient light, content, temperature and battery state.

Sapphire crystal covers the display. It improves surface durability but does not make the watch immune to hard mineral particles, metal impacts or repeated abrasion.

Galaxy Watch Ultra Versus Galaxy Watch Ultra2

The largest numerical changes are battery capacity and display brightness. The footprint is unchanged and the body is thinner, although weight rises by one gram. Memory and storage remain at 2GB and 64GB, so this generation concentrates on the processor, screen, endurance and outdoor tools instead of expanding storage.

Trail Running Adds Elevation And Cumulative Climb

Trail Run tracks more than distance and route. It shows current elevation, climbing progress, downhill sections and cumulative ascent and descent. Those measurements help a runner understand where the steepest effort occurred and how much climbing remains before the next checkpoint or summit.

Dual-frequency L1 and L5 positioning supports GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and QZSS. The additional frequency helps reduce errors caused by reflected signals around cliffs, trees and tall structures, although weather, terrain and satellite visibility will still affect accuracy.

Hydration guidance uses body-weight change and workout data to estimate sweat loss and recommend fluid intake. For long sessions, that information can support a more deliberate drinking plan rather than relying only on elapsed time.

Depth, Dive Time And Water Temperature

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 can automatically record depth, dive duration and water temperature after entering the water. Samsung lists diving support down to 40 metres and adds EN13319. The watch also carries 10ATM and IP69K ratings: 10ATM is based on static water-pressure testing, while IP69K addresses high-temperature, high-pressure water jets.

No rating removes the need for proper dive planning and equipment care. Depth, duration, temperature, salt, impact and the condition of seals all matter. After exposure to seawater, the watch should be rinsed with fresh water and dried thoroughly.

Samsung also plans advanced diving features developed with Mares later in 2026 through a separate app. They are expected to cover ascent and descent rates, safety stops and decompression information. Availability will depend on the app's release schedule and supported regions.

A Lighter Band With Air Pockets

The new band uses internal air pockets and additional perforations to improve drainage and ventilation. Samsung says it is 26% lighter than the previous Ultra band. Reducing the wet contact area can make a noticeable difference after swimming, intense training or long periods in humid weather.

Band geometry also changes how a 61.5g case feels. A stable connection near the lugs and a natural bend around the wrist help keep the watch from shifting during movement. The inner surface and attachment points should be separated and dried after water activities.

Cycling, Dual GPS And The Quick Button

During cycling, the watch can display speed, distance, heart-rate zones, altitude and route information. Dual-frequency GPS supports the track through mountain roads and dense urban sections, while the 800mAh battery gives long sessions more electrical headroom. The Quick Button remains useful for starting or pausing a workout while wearing gloves.

IP69K and 10ATM widen the range of water exposure the watch is designed to withstand, but mud and debris should still be rinsed from the buttons and band connectors. Water resistance can decrease after impact, wear or repair.

Wear OS 7, One UI 9 Watch And Raise To Talk

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 runs Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 6.0, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, and LTE eSIM. Raise to Talk lets the wearer lift the wrist and start a Google Gemini request without first opening an app, which can be useful when a phone is difficult to reach during activity.

Samsung Health includes Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index and hearing tools. The sensor set covers optical heart rate, ECG, BIA, temperature, pressure, acceleration, gyroscope and geomagnetic data. Feature availability can vary by country, connected phone and app version.

Korean Release On August 7 At KRW 969,100

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 arrives in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray as a 47mm LTE model. Korean pre-orders start July 28, followed by the official release on August 7. The launch price is KRW 969,100.

The second-generation Ultra keeps the same broad silhouette while becoming thinner, brighter and significantly better equipped for long outdoor sessions. An 800mAh battery, 5,000-nit display, Snapdragon Wear Elite, Trail Run and diving support make its purpose clearer. Its 47mm size, 61.5g weight and premium price also make it a more specialized choice than a standard Galaxy Watch.
